More Information: Marine Lawrence H Jarvis was involved in a sea battle that started 60 miles from Nanking (near Rose Island) on 20 April 1949.  The battle continued into the Yangtse river where HMS Amethyst hid for 3 months.  There were many ships involved in the incident, Lawrence was serving on HMS London.
